Terrapolis (2020) is a 2-channel video projection and an app that explores the relationship between the human and more-than-human world, amplifying our connection to the earth. The term combines the Latin ‘terra’ for the earth, with the Greek ‘polis’ for city or citizens. Through a designed digital algorithm, the identities of all the contributors to The Sustainability Pavilion at EXPO 2020 have been transformed into a digital organic extension in a simulation that reflects life from a parallel view. Each form is a representation of a specific individual that emerges in the digital space using the algorithm as a portal blurring the distinction between life forms and establishing a sense of kinship.
